Founded in 2005 through a collaboration with Austin Mennonite Church, our community garden has served as a green and growing space for neighbors in the Windsor Park area for 20 years. We are located behind Austin Mennonite Church, next door to the Windsor Park Branch of Austin Public Library and across the street from Harris Elementary School. The garden sits on a half-acre of land—making it one of the largest community gardens in the city.
Built on a foundation of organic gardening principles, the garden once flourished with active beds, a neighborhood-accessible free garden, communal farm rows, a public composting program, and collaborations with the Windsor Park Library and the Child Development Center next door.
In recent years, the garden has fallen into disrepair as membership declined and the challenges of managing such a large space increased. But a new chapter is beginning.

We are currently restoring the garden with renewed energy and a deep commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and community. The revitalized space will include newly rebuilt personal beds—some of them raised for gardeners with physical limitations—as well as shaded gathering areas, plus pollinator and native grassland gardens.
We’re dedicated to ensuring the garden is a resource for all neighbors, not just members. Revitalization plans include reestablishing a neighborhood free garden, hosting educational workshops and events, donating surplus produce to local food banks, and donating plots to outside organizations looking to build educational and outreach programs.
Applications for new gardeners are closed while we renovate, but we welcome those who want to get involved with the revitalization! Contact us to be added to our Revitalization Volunteer mailing list or check out our calendar for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
